Fieldstone Organics is a British Columbia certified organic grain handling facility, benefiting local communities by providing delicious whole grains, legumes & seeds for bulk, wholesale and retail consumers.

We began in the early 2000's as a co-operative organization made up of a group of enthusiastic growers & farmers in the small Okanagan community of Armstrong. Though we have grown in size since then, our mandate has been left untouched: to provide wholesome & accessible organic whole grain products and services for consumers and businesses alike.

We partner with local Okanagan organic farmers to grow almost all of our products. In this way, we assure the integrity and quality of our goods. If we cannot source a grain or legume through our partner farms, then we work closely with the best organic farmers in BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

For growers, we are an enthusiastic supporter of Growing Organically and are happy to help in any way we can with your progression towards an organic operation. We work hard to pay our growers the fairest price our market will allow.

Fieldstone Organics

Whole grain barley is a healthy high-fiber, high-protein, low gluten whole grain boasting numerous health benefits. It cooks up quickly into a puffy chewy grain that has a smooth nutty flavor. It has been used for eons in dishes ranging from cereals to breads to soups and when malted, to make beer and whiskey.

Barley is the oldest of all grains, having been cultivated for about 10,000 years. It originated in the Middle East and North Africa.

Versatile and delicious as a standalone dish or delectable in soups, casseroles, pilafs and baked goods.

According to the FDA, barley's soluble fiber reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and can lower cholesterol. Barley also contains insoluble fiber, which reduces the risk of Type 2 diabetes and colon cancer.

An excellent low gluten source of selenium, phosphorus, copper and manganese.

Barley

An incredibly tasty versatile and healthful grain, Oats have been a food staple of many cultures and continue to be very popular in North America today. Oats are very much full of nutritional value and they are extremely rich in B-vitamins, calcium, and protein with remarkable levels of soluble and insoluble fiber. They are low in sodium and unsaturated fat.
		
Attributes
The modern oat draws its ancestry from the wild red oat, a plant originating in Asia. Oats have been cultivated for two thousand years in various regions throughout the world. Before being consumed as a food, oats were used for animal feed and medicinal purposes, a use for which they are still honored.

Oats are popular for being a very nutritious food and their cholesterol fighting soluble fiber make them unique. One component of the soluble fibre found in oats is beta-glucans, a soluble fiber which has proven effective in lowering blood cholesterol and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Oats are a gluten free grain. As Fieldstone Organics cleans other whole grains containing gluten there is the potential of cross contamination therefore Fieldstone Organics oats are not marketed as a gluten free product.

Oats are a very good source of manganese, selenium, magnesium, zinc and phosphorus.

Oats are the only cereal grain containing a globulin type protein called ‘avenalin’ (also found in legumes) which is easily digested and approved for celiac free diets.

Oats

Known as the first of the founding grains Einkorn was cultivated during the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age. Einkorn is not only small in size but with a chromosome count of 14 it is much lower in gluten structure than its modern grain counterparts at 42 chromosomes. Einkorn’s a superb whole grain choice for its high levels of protein, essential fatty acids, phosphorous, potassium and lutein.

Einkorn has more Vitamin A than modern wheat. Vitamin A supports eye health and reproductive organs

The high content of lutein found in Einkorn is also notable as lutein is often recommended for those with macular degeneration or cataracts

Einkorn Wheat

This power packed seed will add a great nutty taste as well as substance to your product while delivering important health benefits from its high soluble fibre, high quality protein and nutrients.

A satisfying and delicious source of high quality gluten-free vegetable protein.

Low in Saturated Fat, and very low in cholesterol and sodium, Buckwheat is also very high in carbohydrates (80%) and in antioxidants as well as in numerous minerals and vitamins such as zinc, copper, and niacin and manganese.

Kasha and buckwheat groats are very filling. With their high fiber content, buckwheat and kasha break down slowly during digestion. This is very good for keeping the blood sugar levels balanced.

The soluble fiber in kasha and buckwheat also helps to lower cholesterol levels.

In Japan, buckwheat flour is mixed with other varieties to produce Soba noodles, a traditional dish.

Buckwheat

Like its counterpart Hard Red Wheat, Hard White Wheat is favoured for its protein value and gluten content particularly in bread and leavened products.  Milder in flavor than Hard Red Wheat it performs the same and results in baked goods slightly lighter in colour and softer in texture.

100% whole grain, rich in fiber, a good source of protein, manganese, iron, thiamin, and zinc.

Spring wheat is planted in April to May, makes a continuous growth and is harvested in August to early September.
