The Mader family has been involved in agriculture for five generations. Our farm operations span across the south east part of Washington State and are headquartered in Pullman, WA. In 2001 we acted on an opportunity to add a grain and legume cleaning facility to our operation. Our Cleaning Facility, Palouse Trading is located in Palouse, WA - just a short drive from Pullman. Palouse Trading was originally named Wallace Grain and Pea when it first opened its doors in the 1930's. The plant was designed for quality not quantity and has cleaned legumes and grains for the international market and domestic consumption. Our food is appealing to our consumers because of its nutrition, aesthetics and traceability to our farm. Each bag of food comes with a QR Code that allows you to see harvest details of your food, seeding dates, the field we grew it in, and more. All of our products are certified Kosher Parve, Non-GMO Project Certified and our farming methods are Certified Sustainable by the Food Alliance. Our foods are different because Steve & Kevin Mader plant, harvest, clean and package at our own facilities in Washington State - there are few if any companies that can track your food and details of your food back to the field like we do.

How did this start?

Five generations ago the Mader Family started farming. Our farm operations span across the southeast part of Washington State and are headquartered in Pullman, Washington. In 2001 we acted on an opportunity to add a cleaning facility to our operation. Our cleaning plant, Palouse Trading, is located in Palouse, Washington, just north of Pullman. Originally named Wallace Grain and Pea Company in the 1930s, Palouse Trading was designed for quality instead of quantity. We take raw food product and clean it into food grade edible product, which our customers find appealing because of the nutritional and aesthetic values.

The farm operation has been using the latest in sustainable agricultural practices. We have been using Direct Seeding and No-Till practices since 1982. These changes have greatly reduced soil erosion, have increased soil health and helped us control our cost in an ever-rising input cost environment. In 2006 we became "Food Alliance" certified.

There aren't many companies, if any, that can identify where and when your food was grown and harvested. Palouse Brand Field Trace's your food. Each single commodity bag that leaves our facility has a lot code you can use to search for the field that we grew it in - additionally you will receive through that search details on your bag of food.

Why can we tell you where your food was grown?

We are the originators, cleaners and packagers of our products. We are a family run business. So while we have Steve and Kevin working in the fields to grow our natural food, Sara, Kevin’s wife, is hard at work managing our cleaning facility and our product sales.

Family farmed grains and legumes from the Pacific Northwest

The Mader family has been growing our Palouse Brand garbanzo beans for over a decade now. We proudly use a variety of the Kabuli garbanzo beans, feeling that these are the best of garbanzo bean recipes. Every Spring around April we plant our garbanzo beans, then watch them flourish and grow over the next four months before harvesting them in September. Each of our bags of garbanzo beans includes a lot code; when you enter that lot code on our trace-ability page you will be provided with information about your bag of beans like, what field the beans were grown in, the dates they were both seeded and harvested, pictures of the crop growing, as well as introducing you to the farmers who helped grow the garbanzo beans just for you. This is how we ensure you know you are always getting the freshest commodity available and the peace of mind knowing where your food is coming from.

While our garbanzo beans are naturally gluten-free, we also work very hard to preserve their purity in that way. Our processing facility works with both our garbanzo beans as well as wheat, however, we practice a very strict cleaning process.

Our garbanzo beans are triple cleaned so they are perfect for any garbanzo bean recipe. They are also are non-irradiated so that they can be used further to make sprouted hummus or a sprouted salad.
