Tigernuts have an earthy taste, with a natural sweetness. Tigernuts are like a Brazil nut, but the sweetness is a bit like a pecan.

Peeled using a peeling machine to remove part of the hard skin and leaving some of the hard skin on to retain the crunchiness of the tigernut makes it easier and more enjoyable for consumption as a healthy snack.

Tigernut flour is produced using a milling machine. It has a unique, sweet taste due to its high levels of natural sugar which eliminates the need to add refined sugar making it perfect for people suffering from diabetes. It is gluten free and nut free and therefore suitable for those who suffer with intolerance to gluten, nut allergies or individuals who are just looking for healthier alternatives. The high fiber content of its raw material (Tigernut) makes the product very healthy as everyone needs a minimum fiber contribution each day. Tigernut flour can be used to make a whole array of healthy foods such as snack bars, pastries, cakes and muffins.

Tigernuts have an earthy taste, with a natural sweetness. Tigernuts are like a Brazil nut, but the sweetness is a bit like a pecan.

The Tigernut has a rough, rounded shape and a certain earth-like color, since it is buried there until it is removed for consumption. The plant has a characteristic intense green leaf and the actual tuber varies in size. They are harvested from December until March after which they are washed with water, dried and packaged for consumption. Although they are hard as a result of being dried after harvesting, soaked in water for about 2 hours they are rehydrated and become soft again. 

Whole Tigernuts are perfect for direct consumption or for the production of Horchata, flour and more. Supplied in raw form once harvested, cleaned, aired and packaged, they are offered any time of the year in various sizes ranging from 5mm – 18mm.

Our operations start from farm production to processing, culminating with global distribution of premium products. Our Seed to Consumer strategy provides a level of providence for our product lines that allows PSA to obtain the highest levels of Global product certifications. Over the past decade PSA has operated within the local, regional and export agricultural markets of West Africa. Combining agricultural input supply with farm output handling, PSA grew to include agricultural consultancy and outreach services that developed into our own farms. During the past five years we began to increase our efforts in developing organic farming practices and operations in West Africa. We currently cultivate over 500 hectares organically. Our model is scalable allowing us to increase our output at a steady rate as required by our markets. We operate nucleus farms that bring local farming communities previously dependent on subsistence agricultural methods into the organic fold thereby connecting them to the global consumer markets. This enables all stakeholders to benefit from our seed to consumer strategy.

Superfoods from West African farmers and processors

Tigernut oil is the oil extracted from the Tigernut by a cold pressing process in order to retain as many nutrients as possible. It has a nutty taste and is golden brown in color and is often considered a healthier alternative and of superior quality to olive oil.
